Suggested Letter to Elected Representatives
[Date]
Dear [Governor / Senator / Representative]:
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has proposed increasing the toll at the east, west, and south entries of the Pinellas Bayway.
I object to the FDOT’s toll increase plan. It unduly burdens those of us who have no choice but to use the Pinellas Bayway to get to our homes, schools, churches, and places of employment.
Transferring toll-setting authority for a local road from the legislature to a state road department is bad public policy. If the FDOT gets their way, all control over tolls and the use of revenue from those tolls will be lost.
I ask you to vote against the proposed Pinellas Bayway toll-increase legislation (Senate Bill 554 and House Bill 287) and to direct FDOT to find other options for funding the Pinellas Bayway bridge improvements.
Sincerely,
